The Winds Of Kitty Hawk is a 1978 historical drama about the two Wright Brothers and their invention of the first motor-powered airplane. The story begins in Dayton, Ohio, where Wilbur (Michael Moriarty) and Orville Wright (David Huffman) run a bicycle shop. They become fascinated with the idea of a flying machine. Their experimentation leads to travel to Kitty Hawk, North Carolina in 1900, where the ocean breezes and sandy landing surfaces offer an ideal location for attempting their manned flights. There are competitors there, like Prof. Samuel Langley (John Hoyt) who is pursuing the same goal. In December 1903, they succeed with the manned flight, but struggle to get credit for their achievement. They continue to craft improvements while other inventors, like Glenn Curtiss (Scott Hylands), try to copy their work. The press hounds the brothers trying to get a scoop on their next development. All the while, the brothers quietly and ambitiously work together, fueled by their scientific passion.moreless
