The Winter People is a 1989 romantic drama directed by Ted Kotcheff. In the film, Wayland Jackson (Kurt Russell) is a handsome young widower with a small daughter. Due to the Great Depression, the family has fallen on hard times and hopes to start over in a small Appalachian town in North Carolina. Collie Wright (Kelly McGillis) has lived in the small town her whole life. She has an illegitimate son and a supportive family. However, she won't reveal who is the father of her child. Soon Wayland falls for the beautiful Collie and they begin a relationship. Her family is hesitant to accept the man they view as an outsider, until they bond with him through hunting trips and construction projects. When the illegitimate child's father is finally revealed, tensions in their small town run high. The father has made it known that he wants his child back and the people in the town must bond together to help Collie save her son.moreless
