The Witch is a 1966 horror film by Italian film director Damiano Damiani. The film is an adaptation of a Carlos Fuentes story "The Aura". This obscure film centers around Sergio (Richard Johnson), a jaunty young man who realizes a strange, haggard old woman is following him. He finds an ad in the newspaper which describes the kind of work he does, and when he follows up with the person who placed he ad, he learns it is the same woman who has been watching him. He arrives at the old woman's house who explains that she would like him to piece together some exotic transcripts and letters from her late husband. As Sergio and the old woman bargain, she takes a sip of some kind of concoction and faints shortly thereafter. A beautiful younger woman named Aura enters the room and helps Sergio put the old woman to bed. What ensues is both intriguing and terrifying. Be sure to watch why The Witch is such a praised Italian horror film.moreless
