The Witches is a 1990 fantasy film based on Roald Dahl's classic children's novel of the same name. After Helga's (Mai Zetterling) doctor tells her that her health will improve if she takes a holiday, Helga and grandson Luke (Jasen Fisher) head to a large, seaside hotel near England's coast. When they arrive, Luke goes into the hotel's convention hall with his pet mice so that he can play with them. Soon afterwards, members of a women's charity group begin to file into the room for their meeting. Luke, who is concealed behind a screen, is startled to realize that the women have purple eyes and are scratching their heads excessively, which are two telltale signs that they are witches. Luke's worst fears are realized when the women lock the door to the convention hall and begin to take off their wigs, gloves, and shoes, revealing their bald heads, clawed hands, and deformed feet. When Luke overhears that the witches have a new formula that can kill all of the children in the world, Luke and Helga must work together to prevent their wicked plan.
