The Yellow Rose of Texas is a 1944 black and white film about the intrigue aboard a showboat called the Yellow Rose of Texas. Roy Rogers, starring as himself, is an undercover insurance investigator working as a singer on the boat. He is looking for fugitive Sam Weston (Harry Shannon) who supposedly absconded from a payroll shipment five years earlier. However, when Roy catches Sam, he learns the story is not that simple. Roy has several suspects in mind who could be the thief. With the help of his sidekick, Buster (William Haade), Roy spends most of the film trying to discern just who could have planned such a cunning robbery. Along the way, Rogers treats the audience to some of his trademark songs. The highlights include "The Yellow Rose of Texas," "Take It Easy," and "Down Mexico Way." The Yellow Rose of Texas is an entertaining Western for the whole family.
