The Young Visiters or Mr. Salteena's Plan is a 2003 melodrama embellished with absurdist comedic elements. The film is based on a book that was written by Daisy Ashford when she was 9 years old. Years later, the book was passed around, and placed in the hands of Patrick Barlow and David Yates (Harry Potter films), who created a full-length film using its content. The Young Visiters centers around a quirky man named Alfred Salteena (Jim Broadbent) who desperately vies for the attention of a polished, aristocratic young woman named Ethel Monticue (Lyndsey Marshal). When Alfred realizes he doesn't stand a chance against the urbane men who court Ethel, he enrolls in strict etiquette classes in an effort to polish his demeanor. Will Alfred finally win over Ethel's heart, now that he's in top shape? Hugh Laurie, Bill Nighy, Geoffrey Palmer, Simon Russell Beale, Adam Godley, Sophie Thompson and Sally Hawkins co-star in this hilarious made for television British comedy.
