Theremin: An Electronic Odyssey is a 1994 documentary directed and written by Steven M. Martin. The documentary follows the strange and amazing life of Leon Thermin, the inventor of the theremin. The theremin is a famous and odd electronic instrument known mostly for its use in 1950s science fiction films. Leon's life was a dramatic one. He escaped Russia's communist revolution and traveled to New York where he pioneered the field of electronic music with his theremin synthesiser. He traveled America with the theremin and amazed audiences with it. However at the height of his popularity in the mid 1930s he was kidnapped by Soviet Agents and brought back to Russia. There he was forced to develop spy technology in a labor camp. On his release from the camp he worked on surveillance devices for the KGB. This documentary found Leon Theremin and brought him back to America for a powerful reunion with his colleagues and friends after an absence of almost sixty years!moreless
