Thieves Like Us is a 1974 heist film based on a novel of the same name by Edward Anderson. It is written and directed by Robert Altman. The film follows Bowie (Keith Carradine), T-Dub (Bert Remsen) and Chicamaw (John Schuck) as they escape the Mississippi State Penitentiary in 1936. They embark on a bank robbing spree in the South intending to buy their way to a better life while avoiding the law. Along the way, they take refuge with Dee Mobley (Tom Skerrit) and Keechie (Shelly Duvall) and later with T-Dub's in-law Mattie (Louise Fletcher). While hiding out and planning further heists, the gang track the increasingly sensational coverage of their robberies on the radio and in newspapers. Tension erupts when Chicamaw shoots a bank teller during a robbery and their status is taken up to wanted dead or alive. The pressure of being on the run becomes too much for the gang to bear as they realize that their good fortune may soon run out.moreless
