Things to Do in Denver When You're Dead takes a satirical lens to the Denver underworld and its inhabitants. When Jimmy "The Saint" Tosnia (Andy Garcia) decided to leave his gangster pals for a life on the straight and narrow, he found that earning an honest buck was tough work. His business, Afterlife Advice, was big on originality but small on profits. Jimmy was in for a small fortune with a local loan shark and he had little choice when offered a job by his old boss, "The Man with the Plan" (Christopher Walken). The Man's son had been dumped, and his now ex-girlfriend was running around town with another guy, so The Man wants Jimmy to rough up the new guy and run him out of town. Jimmy takes the job and rounds up his crew for what seems like a no-brainer, but when the band of misfits manage to bungle the job, Jimmy might be the one giving advice from the afterlife.moreless

    Los Angeles Times Kenneth Turan

Moviegoers who can make it past "Denver's" excessive violence--no small thing--and get on this film's off-center wavelength will find a grave noir comedy heavy with romantic regret...

    Variety Todd McCarthy

Tartly written and vividly performed by a fine ensemble cast, Gary Fleder's bracingly entertaining first feature covers familiar ground in a fresh, breezy way.

Mr. Garcia gives one of his sleeker dreamboat performances.
