Things We Lost in the Fire is a film about heartache and how people rebuild their lives after tragedy. In the film, Audrey Burke (Halle Barry) and Brian Burke (David Duchovny) are a happily married couple raising a young daughter and son named, respectively, Harper (Alexis Llewellyn) and Dory (Micah Berry). The only difficult part of their life is the presence of Brian's childhood friend, Jerry Sunborne (Benicio del Toro), a heroin addict. Everyone's life is turned upside down one day, however, when Brian is killed while trying to save a woman from being beaten up by her husband. Jerry moves into the garage to help the family cope with Brian's death, while the family tries to help Jerry overcome his drug addiction. As time passes, the relationships between everyone become confusing as Audrey develops feelings for Jerry while he assumes the father role for Harper and Dory. Things We Lost in the Fire is testament to the fact that some pains can't be fixed; they can only be endured.moreless
