This Film Is Not Yet Rated

Movie Summary

Director:
Kirby Dick
Released:
2006
Rating:
Not Available
This Film Is Not Yet Rated is a gutsy expos'' from Academy Award nominated director Kirby Dick. The film documents an undercover investigation into the process by which the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) rates films, and the influential role it plays in cultural standards. It exposes a great deal of hypocrisy, and the use of double standards and secrecy to get away with biased treatment of films depending on their degree of liberalism and which studios they come from. Sexual content in movies with gay themes are, for example, rated much more harshly than films with violence. Sometimes graphic footage is used to illustrate such discrepancies. The film features illuminating, and sometimes uproariously funny interviews with Matt Stone, Mary Harron, Maria Bello, John Waters, Atom Egoyan, Kevin Smith and Darren Aronofsky. This Film Is Not Yet Rated was a great success at the Sundance Film Festival in 2006 and actually prompted the MPAA to reform its rating system.
