Three Husbands is a 1951 comedy directed by Irving Reis. Maxwell Bard (Emlyn Williams) was a playboy, he's just died. On earth, his friends gather for Maxwell's will reading, but learn the will is on hold for a day and instead they each receive a letter from Maxwell. In the letter Maxwell implies that he's had an affair with each of their wives. As Maxwell watches from above, he sees his friends try to figure out if the letters are true, and if Maxwell did have an affair with their wives. Maxwell's friend Dan McCabe (Howard da Silva) knows Maxwell's sense of humor and is sure the letter is a joke, he goes to a bar to laugh it off. Arthur Evans (Shepperd Strudwick) and Kevin Whittaker (Robert Karnes) both have flashbacks to the suspicious behavior of their wives, and think an affair really did happen. When the three friends and their wives return for the reading of the will they learn Maxwell's true reason for writing the letters.moreless
