Three Times is an award-winning, romantic drama directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien. The film was awarded the 2005 Golden Horse Award for Best Taiwanese Film of the Year. The movie portrays three separate love stories set in 1960, 1911 and 2005. The three stories titled "A Time for Love", "A Time for Freedom" and "A Time for Youth" utilize the same actors in these unrelated, love themed stories. Each film stars Shu Qi and Chen Chang as the lead actors. The first story deals with a soldier searching for a hostess named May, a woman who captured his heart during their first meeting. The second story, A Time for Freedom, occurs during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan, where Shu Qi is a courtesan servicing the needs of Mr. Chang. The last story in the trilogy, A Time for Youth, tells the story of a singer balancing a relationship with a female lover and a casual relationship with a photographer.
