Thunder in the East is a 1952 black and white film based on novel Rage of the Vulture by Alan Moorehead. The film follows American Steve Gibbs (Alan Ladd) as he arrives in India not long after the country gained independence from Great Britain in 1947. Gibbs hopes he can capitalize on the situation and make a fortune selling arms to the Maharaja (Charles Lung). However, the pacifist Prime Ministers Singh (Charles Boyer), a disciple of Gandhi, refuses to buy the shipment. This forces Gibbs to find another way to sell arms in the midst of the Indian Civil War. While he works, Gibbs encounters a blind Englishwoman named Joan Willoughby (Deborah Kerr), who vows to help Steve sell his stockpile to the Maharaja directly. Lizette Damon, a rich and beautiful French woman, also woos Steve leaving him stuck between two very different women. Thunder in the East is a captivating tale of a love triangle told against the backdrop of a bloody civil war.moreless
