Thunder in the Sun is a 1959 western directed by Russell Rouse and produced by Carrollton, Inc. It is 1847, and a group of Basque immigrants travels through the Old West on their way to California. The group hopes to establish themselves as wine makers using ancestral vines carried with them from Europe. Tragedy strikes the group when their leader (Carl Esmond) dies in an accident. Following Basque tradition, his widow, Gabrielle (Susan Hayward) marries his younger brother (Jacques Bergerac). However, their marriage is without love and Gabrielle soon falls for Lon Bennett (Jeff Chandler) a scout hired by the expedition as a guide. This relationship complicates matters forcing the immigrants not only to battle through nature and Indian attacks, but also themselves. Will the pioneers fulfill their dreams, or will they succumb to the dangers of the Wild West? The film also stars: Blanche Yurka, Fortunio Bonanova, Bertrand Castelli, Felix Locher
