Thunderbirds is a 2004 action film directed by Jonathon Frakes. The film is based on the television series that aired during the 1960s. Thunderbirds revolves around the sons of retired astronaut and creator of International Rescue, Jeff Tracy (Bill Paxton). International Rescue is a secret organization that employs very advanced forms of technology, most of which is developed by secretive scientist Brains living in the International Rescue base on Tracy Island, to save lives all over the world. Jeff trained each of his seven sons from childhood to become elite members of the organization. International Rescue's space station is damaged early on in the film by what is suspected to be a meteor. However, the group soon discovers that evil mastermind Aristotle Spode is behind the attack and they quickly react to sabotage his plans. Metacritic Score

  • 60

The New York Times Stephen Holden

A standard, gadget-crazed exercise in whiz-bang adventure with its tongue lodged deep inside its cheek.

  • 50

    Variety David Rooney

The story rarely gets fired up to "maximum thrust," to use the rocket-speed parlance of its heroes.

  • 40

    Los Angeles Times

Aside from a couple of rescue set pieces that bookend it, the film is strictly low-wattage in terms of action.
