Till Human Voices Wake Us is a 2002 romantic drama written and directed by Australian cinematographer Michael Petroni. When his boarding school has a holiday, fifteen-year-old Sam Franks (Lindley Joyner) travels to his small, Australian hometown to stay with his father, David (Peter Curtin). Once he is there, he rekindles his relationship with his beautiful friend Silvy Lewis (Brooke Harmon), who wears braces on her legs. Ever since Sam's mother died, his father has become increasingly cold and uncaring. As a result, Silvy is the only person in the entire world with whom Sam is able to share his feelings. They often retreat into a fantasy world together by reading beautiful poetry out of Silvy's favorite book. As Sam and Silvy share a romantic swim in a lake one night, Silvy tragically slips under the water and drowns. Twenty years later, Sam (Guy Pearce), who is now a psychologist, once again travels to his hometown for his father's funeral. Startling events begin to unfold when Sam meets a stranger named Ruby (Helena Bonham Carter), who, strangely enough, acts just like his beloved childhood friend.moreless
