Time After Time is a 1979 thriller written and directed by Nicholas Meyer. During the year 1893, writer H.G. Wells (Malcolm McDowell) invents a time machine and presents it to all of his friends at a party. When the party is disturbed by police officers looking for notorious serial killer Jack the Ripper (David Warner), they find a bloody bag that appears to belong to the murderer. H.G. Wells realizes that the bag belongs to his friend, a surgeon named John Leslie Stevenson (David Warner), but Stevenson has disappeared from the party. Wells soon discovers that Stevenson has stolen his time machine and traveled forward to the year 1979. Since Stevenson does not have the return key for the machine, it travels back to 1893 and Wells uses it to follow the killer to 20th century San Francisco. Once he arrives, Wells must find a way to stop Stevenson from resuming his killing spree.
