Time of the Gypsies is a Yugoslavian film directed by acclaimed Serbian artist Emir Kusturica. The movie follows young Perhan (Davor Dujmovic), an orphan being raised by his grandmother, Khaditza (Ljubica Adzovic). He is in love with the beautiful Azra (Sinolicka Trpkova), who is not allowed to marry him due to his lineage. However, due to his gambling uncle Merdzan (Husnija Hasimovic), Perhan is drawn into the underground world of crime by gang leader Ahmed (Bora Todorovic). Perhan, who has telekinetic powers, follows Ahmed and his brothers to Milan, where he begins to find success as a petty thief. Perhan wants to use the money to save his lame sister, Danira (Elvira Sali), build a home for his family, and marry his love. However, he is unaware of the corruption that he brings down upon his family and must come to terms with the man he is becoming, and the consequences of his actions.
