Times and Winds is a Turkish film about a remote mountain community where villagers live out their lives according to age-old rhythms of seasonality, day and night, air and water, and the five daily calls to prayer. Told through the stories of three preteen friends, life in the village is uncertain, tedious, and unfair. Omer (Ozkan Ozen) hates his father (Bulent Emin Yarar), the village imam, because he clearly prefers Omer's younger brother. After his prayers for his father's death go unanswered, Omer tampers with his father's medication. This doesn't worth either, so Omer catches a scorpion, but it dies before Omer can put it to use. Yakup (Ali Bey Kayali), Omer's best friend, has an innocent infatuation with the village's teacher (Selma Ergec). Infatuation turns to revulsion after Yakup discovers his father peeping on the teacher and he furiously dreams of ways to kill his father as well. The third preteen, Yildiz (Elit Iscan), is a girl subjected to hard labor and servitude by her mother and confronted with the growing realization of her second class role as a female. Retreating to a nearby mountainside for respite, the three companions rely on each other as they venture from childhood to the world of their parents.moreless
