To Catch a Thief is a 1955 thriller directed by Alfred Hitchcock. John Robie (Cary Grant) is a former cat burglar who now resides in the French Riviera. Though a recent outburst of similar robberies point the authorities in John Robie's direction. Robie escapes from the police and hides with the help of an old acquaintance Foussard (Jean Martinelli), and Foussard's daughter Danielle (Brigitte Auber). John Robie's only way out now is to find the real cat burglar and clear his name before he is arrested by the police. Robie finds that the most expensive jewels in the Riviera are owned by Jessie Stevens (Jessie Royce Landis) and her daughter, Francie (Grace Kelly). Robie befriends the mother-daughter duo to watch for the burglar. Francie, however, proves to be not as naive as Robie though and the two begin a relationship. As Jessie and Francie's jewels are stolen, Francie believes Robie to be the culprit. Robie now must prove to the police and Francie that he is an innocent man.moreless
