She marries Larry Maretto (Matt Dillon) a man with mafia connections, in the hope of remaining financially secure. Once Larry implores Suzanne to take more time off work to start a family, things get complicated. Suzanne enlists the help of high school students, including Jimmy Emmett (Joaquin Phoenix), Russell Heines (Casey Affleck), and Lydia Mertz (Alison Folland), to help her get rid of her husband. Film fans will notice cameos from George Segal, director David Cronenberg, and Buck Henry himself. Kidman was nominated for a BAFTA and won a Golden Globe Award for her highly praised performance. To Die For is based on the novel of the same name by writer Joyce Maynard.
