To Sleep With Anger is a 1990 family drama starring Danny Glover as an uninvited guest who disrupts a middle class Los Angeles family. Gideon (Paul Butler) receives an unexpected visit from his old friend, Harry (Danny Glover), a drifter, who needs a place to stay. Gideon's wife, Suzie (Mary Alice), thinks the house is already full with their grown son, Babe Brother (Richard Brooks), plus his wife, Linda (Sheryl Lee Ralph). At first, Harry provides a charming link to their Southern roots, but his presence begins to cause tensions between the family members. He also starts bringing a questionable circle of friends to the house. When Gideon falls ill, Harry begins to take a more domineering role in the home, causing the difficult situation to swerve from bad to worse. Director Charles Burnett ("Killer of Sheep ") won the Special Jury Prize at the prestigious Sundance Film Festival for this dark and funny drama.
