Toe to Toe, directed by Emily Abt, is a 2009 drama about an unlikely friendship between two very different girls. Tosha (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Jesse (Louisa Krause) are two senior girls at an elite Washington, D.C. prep school, and they are both star players on the schools Lacrosse team. That is where the similarities end. Tosha is a poor black girl attending the competitive school on scholarship. The neighborhood she was raised in is one of the poorest and roughest neighborhoods in Washington, D.C. Jessie is a troubled, promiscuous white girl from an affluent family. Jesse was raised in a glamorous Maryland suburb. Despite their differences, the teammates form a genuine friendship on the field. The girls enjoy each others company and try to continue their friendship off the field. However, being friends off the field proves to be difficult for the girls because the social differences between them create unexpected obstacles.
