Tokyo Joe is a 1949 drama directed by Stuart Heisler. Returning to Tokyo after World War II, Joe Barrett (Humphrey Bogart) is surprised to find that the bar he once owned is still intact. He is even more surprised when he finds the wife he deserted, Trina (Florence Marly), did not die in the war as he thought. She has since moved on, divorcing him to marry American diplomat Mark Landis (Alexander Knox). Desperate to win back his wife and daughter, Anya (Lora Lee Michel), Barrett takes a job working for Baron Kimura (Sessue Hayakawa), a former Japanese intelligence officer who is setting up a small airline in Tokyo. When Barrett discovers that Kimura is intent on smuggling Japanese war criminals into Japan to start a counter-insurgency, he balks. Unwilling to take no for an answer, Kimura blackmails Barrett and takes his daughter hostage. Now, unable to go to the authorities, Barrett must find a way to foil the plan and rescue his daughter.moreless
