Tom Horn is a 1980 dramatic western about the life of the legendary former army scout and hired gunman who finds himself on trial for murder. In the late 1890s, Tom Horn (Steve McQueen) is hired by Tom Coble (Richard Farnsworth) and other wealthy Colorado and Wyoming ranchers to battle cattle rustlers during the Johnson County War. Horn uses brutal, albeit effective methods to drive off anyone bold enough to mess with his wealthy benefactors' cattle. After several embarrassing incidents, townspeople and local businessmen tire of Horn's brand of vigilante justice. His once supportive employers begin to realize that he is a huge liability and want him out of the way. A short time later, Willie Nickell, the 14-year-old son of a sheep herder is shot. The alleged murder weapon is a rifle used by Horn. Although most of the evidence against Horn is dubious at best, he is arrested and tried for murder.
