Tortilla Soup is a dramatic comedy based on the movie Eat Drink Man Woman. Although Martin Naranjo (Hector Elizondo) still mourns the loss of his wife, he has found happiness in his career as a chef and his life with his three adult daughters, each of whom still lives at home. His oldest daughter, Leticia (Elizabeth Pena), is a conservative high school teacher who mysteriously begins receiving love letters from an unknown admirer. Carmen (Jacqueline Obradors) secretly dreams of owning her own restaurant but has chosen a career as a business analyst instead, opting for job security over happiness. The baby of the family, Maribel (Tamara Mello), is the most outgoing of the siblings, romantically pursuing a fellow student and moving in with him shortly after meeting him. As the girls' lives get progressively more complicated, Martin's family dinners become the glue that holds everyone together. Tortilla Soup was directed by Maria Ripoll.
