Trail to San Antone is a 1947 Western film directed by John English that presents an intriguing story behind horse racing. Gene Autry (as himself) is a generous cowboy eager to help those in need in his community. When he encounters an injured jockey, Ted Malloy (John Duncan), who is having trouble regaining his confidence and self-esteem to return to horse racing, charismatic Gene is determined to help the young man get back in business by providing his support. The situation gets more complicated when Gene's neighbor, Peggy Stuart (Kit Barlow), loses her beautiful mare, Champ, when a swift stallion kidnapps her. Gene and his hilarious partner, Sterling Holloway (Droopy Stearns), embark on a plane trip to locate the mare and bring her back to the owner. Finally, everything is prepared for the big horse racing event which gathers an enthusiastic audience.
