Burt Lancaster takes the roll of a crippled acrobat, who was disabled after attempting to perform a dangerous triple mid-air somersault. An aspiring aerialist (Tony Curtis) coerces Lancaster into teaching him everything he knows. But when the beautiful and driven circus tumbler Lola arrives on the scene, their strong ties are put to the test. The film is highlighted by its incredible stunt sequences, performed by the best of the European big-top circuit.
