True Stories is a 1986 comedy directed by David Bryne from the Talking Heads and written by Bryne and Beth Anthony. The film revolves around searching for the uniqueness and individuality in people. A stranger (David Bryne) wearing a cowboy hat travels to Virgil, Texas for the 150th anniversary of the town, where they are holding a Celebration of Special-ness. This stranger takes to the streets and observes people to find the specialness and uniqueness inside the everyday people he meets for a documentary he is making. He runs into several intriguing residents such as Louis Fyne (John Goodman) who works at the local factory and has been unlucky at love but is still searching for Mrs. Right, Earl Culver (Spalding Grey) who needs to learn how to communicate better with his wife, Miss Rollins (Swoosie Kurtz) who does not get out of bed, Mr. Tucker (Pops Staples) who regularly practices voodoo, and Ramon (Tito Larriva) who tells everyone he has telepathic powers. Bryne is tyring to get enough footage of these extraordinary people to make his documentary successful.
