PG-13
Tumbleweeds is a 1999 film directed by Gavin O'Connor. The story revolves around a restless woman, Mary Jo Walker (Janet McTeer), and her outgoing 12-year-old daughter Ava Walker (Kimberly J. Brown). Since the age of 17 Mary has enjoyed love diversity, as she has been married to three men and had multiple boyfriends. Every time she becomes disappointed in men, she embarks on a trip with her daughter to escape from another romantic failure. It's the end of another abusive relationship when Mary and Ava decide to move near the beautiful beaches of a San Diego suburb. The mother finds a decent job and Amy enlists in school. Although at first they seem to be doing just fine without any men in their life, Mary strikes romance with an athletic truck driver, Jack Ranson (Gavin O'Connor). When their relationship is starting to deteriorate, Mary intends to leave the town but meets the desperate resistance of her daughter. It seems that Ava has had enough of this free-spirited life as she becomes attached to the place and her local friends. Will they get back to their old habits and hit the road again?moreless
