Tuya's Marriage is a story of heartbreak, desperation and love. The grasslands of Inner Mongolia have long been a steady and profitable place to herd cattle. The desertification of these lands has left them much less accommodating to cattle and the people who depend on the land for their livelihood. Tuya's Marriage is set around this theme. Tuya (Nan Yu) and her husband, Ba'toer (Ba'toer), live in the declining grasslands and are finding it harder and harder to live there. One day Ba'toer goes on a search for some water and loses both his legs in the process. With Ba'toer unable to work the land, Tuya must try her hand at all the things required for raising cattle. Her body quickly breaks down under the hard labor and she and Ba'toer have come to a crossroad. They decide to divorce and Tuya will find a new husband who will care for her, Ba'toer and the children. Ba'toer becomes depressed as his wife is out looking for another man to care for them all. A troubling situation filled with tons of desperation and longing, Tuya's Marriage is a heartbreaking tale.moreless
