Tween is an intense drama, produced by independent studio Big Nose Baby, and starring Ashley Ann-Michaels as a young teen forced to confront issues revolving around teen sexuality and family dysfunction. The acclaimed film was selected as the opening film for the 2008 Santa Cruz International Film Festival. After thirteen year-old Mari (Ann-Michaels) is suspended for participating in sexual activities with the young son of the vice principal of her private, Catholic school, her mother Cecilia (Christa Martin) is forced to confront the reality of the situation before her. Shortly after the event, Cecilia finds her own life becoming increasingly complicated, which leads to the mother-daughter pair embarking on a journey to overcome the lies that have held the disjointed family together for so long. Both Cecilia and Mari must ultimately bring their family back together by embracing the dysfunctional relationship they share and learning to accept one another for who they are.
