Twisted is a thriller film that revolves around a woman's search to find the truth. Jessica Shepard (Ashley Judd) is a police officer in San Francisco. Her father was also a police officer in the 1970s who turned into a murderer, even killing Jessica's mother. Having just solved a case involving a serial killer, Jessica is transferred to the homicide division and made an inspector. Jessica turns to her father's former partner, John Mills (Samuel L. Jackson), for advice and mentoring. One day, Jessica's former lover is found murdered. She and her new partner, Mike Delmarco (Andy Garcia), are assigned to the case. As she investigates the case, three more murders occur. All of the victims are Jessica's former lovers. Jessica has a mental breakdown, blacking out for substantial periods of time. She begins to wonder if she may have killed these men during one of her blackouts. When the truth is revealed, Jessica is forced to question everything she has even known.moreless

Metacritic Score

  • 40

The New York Times Dana Stevens

Laborious and nonsensical psychological thriller, a mediocre piece of studio hackwork unredeemed by a first-rate director.

  • 30

    Los Angeles Times Manohla Dargis

Twisted is rubbish, but it looks good enough, moves fast enough and does improve as it progresses, principally because its plot disintegrtes to the point of outright comedy.

  • 30

    Variety Scott Foundas

A dreary, weary psychosexual thriller that's neither sexy nor thrilling.
