Movie Summary

Director:
Jan de Bont
Released:
1996
Rating:
PG-13

The film revolves around storm chaser, Bill Harding, his fiance Dr. Melissa Reeves, and a team of adrenaline junkie scientists. Bill, throughout the film, is attempting to study the inner workings of tornadoes. He constantly chases tornadoes in his truck trying to place a tornado analyzing device aptly named Dorothy inside of the tornado's heart. Bill's soon-to-be ex-wife Jo Harding is the leader of the team. Her devotion to tornadoes began as a young child when she witnessed her father die at the hands of a tornado. Since that day she has vowed to protect everyone from the little known yet real threat of tornadoes. Along their way chasing the elusive T5 tornado, the team encounters a rival company who is trying to launch their analyzing machine into the tornado first. It becomes a battle of wills as each team wishes to establish themselves in the history books.

Hurtling pace, by-the-numbers character development and exotic science. Tornado-chasing suddenly takes on a sex appeal not usually associated with horrendous storms.
