Two Lovers follows the love triangle between Leonard Kraditor (Joaquin Phoenix) and Sandra Cohen (Vinessa Shaw) and Michelle Rausch (Paltrow). Leonard is emotionally troubled and has made multiple suicide attempts. He's returned to his parent's home in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, following a devastating break-up. His parents introduce him to Sandra, the daughter of a potential business partner of his father's. She's Jewish, like Leonard, and also loving and comforting, but before the two can start a relationship, Leonard meets new neighbor Michelle. She's fun, rootless and in love with a married man. Leonard is torn between his affections for the stable Sandra and the passion moody Michelle brings to his life. Just as Michelle seems ready to leave her married boyfriend, Mr. Cohen offers Leonard a position in management in the family business, assuming he will be marrying Sandra. As pressure builds from his family to cement his relationship with Sandra, Leonard must make a choice. Directed by James Gray, the film premiered at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival.moreless
