Two Nights with Cleopatra (Due Notti con Cleopatra) is a 1953 Italian comedy from director Mario Mattoli. Marc Anthony (Ettore Manni) is on the eve of a new war and Cleopatra (Sophia Loren), Queen of the Nile, is determined to see her lover before he departs. To sneak past her new royal guard, Cesarino (Alberto Sordi), Cleopatra enlists the beautiful slave girl Nisca (Sophia Loren) to impersonate her in her chambers. The guard and the imposter fall in love and Cleopatra returns home to find the two have fallen into bed. Little does Cesarino know that to keep her affairs a secret, the real Cleopratra has had her past guards executed after their trysts were concluded. Cesarino outlives his predecessors through his valorous service and his refusal to become physically involved with the queen herself. But when Cleopatra presses the issue, he must decide whether to take his chances with his queen's mercy or to grab Nisca and run for their lives.moreless
