UFO is a part documentary, part drama that tells the story of reporter Al Chop's (Tom Powers) experiences as the press liaison to the Pentagon in the 1950's. Al Chop begins his career as a UFO skeptic but as time goes on he begins to re-examine his beliefs. Al Chop is drawn into the UFO controversy in 1947 when fellow reporters hound him for information regarding UFO sightings by Air Force personnel. This leads Al Chop into discussions with military scientists and researchers. These discussions, as well as his own experiences listening to an Air Force pilot describe being surrounded by UFOs while it is happening, bring Al Chop from the world of skeptics to the world of die-hard UFO believers and followers. The U.S. government cooperated with the film-maker by making many documents and records about their history with UFOs available. This cooperation helped add historic realism to Al Chop's story.
