Uncle Boonme Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Loong Boonmee Raleuk Chat) is a captivating film which centers around a dying man as he reflects on his life. The film was written and directed by critically-acclaimed Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul (Tropical Malady, Blissfully Yours). A terminally-ill Uncle Boonmee (Thanapat Saisaymar) sits on his deathbed and reminisces on life during his last days on Earth. He is cared for by his sister-in-law Jen (Jenjira Pongpas) who helps him cope emotionally. Boonmee is visited by the apparition of his dead wife Huay (Natthakarn Aphaiwong), and his son Boonsong (Jeerasak Kulhong). Through these visits, Boonmee is able to piece together the meaning of his life and the reasons for his impending death. His story unfurls in a dream-like manner, with beautiful shots of the forests in Thailand. Uncle Boonme won the Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2010. A wonderful film for all those who enjoy meditating on the meaning of life.moreless
