Uncommon Valor is about the rescue of Vietnam POWs from a prison camp. MacGregor, a wealthy businessman, finances a covert mercenary mission in hopes of locating his MIA son. Colonel Cal Rhodes takes command and must recruit a battle-tested team of war veterans that know the terrain. His team includes slow-witted Sailor, old-timer Charts, a haunted Wilkes, hotshot Blaster and the rookie Scott, who never saw combat. Once he convinces the individual soldiers to risk their lives on this dangerous tactical mission, the team will test their skills and face their nightmares as they relive the days of their violent Vietnam combat.

Metacritic Score

  • 50

The New York Times Janet Maslin

Action fans may well find Uncommon Valor enjoyably familiar, but for others it will smack of war movie dej a-vu, despite the new angle provided by its concern for American soldiers...

  • 50

    Chicago Sun-Times Roger Ebert

The basic idea of Uncommon Valor is so interesting that it's all they can do to make a routine formula movie out of it. But they do.

    Variety

All of the top talent involved - especially Gene Hackman - is hardly needed to make Uncommon Valor what it is, a very common action picture.
