Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is a 2009 fantasy film directed by Patrick Tatopoulos and starring Bill Nighy, Michael Sheen, Rhona Mitra, and Kate Beckinsale in a prequel to the 2003 film Underworld that tells the story of Lucian (Sheen), the shape-shifting werewolf who began the long and bloody war between the werewolves and the vampires. Lucian is believed to be the first Lycan, a breed of werewolves able to take human form. Bill Nighy plays Viktor, an evil and powerful vampire who rules over a large vampire community. He raises the young Lucian in captivity, hoping to use the werewolf's unique ability to transform into a human to his advantage someday. However, as Lucian grows up he begins to rebel against the harsh control of his captor. Lucian develops a romance with Viktor's daughter, Sonja, a beautiful vampire who doesn't share her father's ill will towards werewolves. As Lucian and Sonja grow closer, Viktor's efforts to control the Lycan population become more and more extreme. Underworld: Rise of the Lycans is an exciting action film and a must-see for Underworld fans.moreless
