Movie Summary

Director:
Adrian Lyne
Released:
2002
Rating:
R
The movie Unfaithful stars Diane Lane and Richard Gere, as a seemingly happily married couple whose life takes a turn for the worse when Constance (Diane) begins a torrid affair with the handsome Paul (Olivier Martinez). Constance's life begins to crumble as she tries to balance her affair while keeping Edward (Gere) in the dark. Soon enough, Edward becomes suspicious of Constance's constant trips to New York City, and decides to investigate. What he discovers changes all their lives. Unfaithful was directed by acclaimed director Adrian Lyne, who previously directed Fatal Attraction. Known for the strong sexual nature of his films, Lyne wanted to explore the sexual dynamic between a perfectly happy, functional couple, and what happens due to a chance meeting, and an unexpected affair.

Ms. Lane has the role of her career in Connie, and her indelible (and ultimately sympathetic) performance is both archetypal and minutely detailed.

Though it is difficult to take Unfaithful as seriously as it takes itself, on its own terms it's quite well done.
