The Unforgiven is a 1960 western film starring Burt Lancaster and Audrey Hepburn. Highlighted in the film is the racism against Native Americans and people believed to have Native American blood. When Rachel Zachary (Audrey Hepburn), the adopted daughter of a thriving frontier family, is accused of being Native American, the family's neighbors turn against them. Rachel's blood brother and a group of Kiowas return to reclaim her saying that she was stolen from them during a raid. When Mattilda Zachary (Lillian Gish), the matriarch of the family, reveals the truth, hostility erupts against the family. Burt Lancaster plays Ben Zachary who is in love with Rachel and tries to protect the family. But Rachel's adopted brother, Cash (Audie Murphy), cannot accept his sister because of her Native American blood. Rachel is forced to take matters into her own hands and ultimately makes a choice between her family and her heritage.
