Union Pacific takes place during the Lincoln era. President Lincoln has signed the bill that will allow massive additions to the railroad. With the plan for the extension of the Union Pacific Railroad in place and headed for California, one man looks to gain something by getting in the way. Asa Borrows (Henry Kolker) understands that putting a stop to the expansion of this railroad means he can make a substantial amount of money. One of Borrows' accomplices, known gambler Sid Campeau (Brian Donlevy) and his partner Dick Allen (Robert Preston) try to keep Captain Jeff Butler (Joel McCrea) busy and out of the affairs of Asa Borrow. It also does not sit well with Captain Butler that Allen is a friend from his past who is now after the woman he admires in Mollie Monahan (Barbara Stanwyck), who is also the daughter of the engineer on the other side. Both sides will battle it out but only one can win the fight.moreless
