Unloosened and Root is a fictitious documentary directed and produced by David Dixon and deals with death and the journey to deal with its effects. In the film, Joe Johnson's (David Dixon) mother has just passed away. Joe and his family have decided to have his mother's funeral in New Orleans during Mardi Gras. The memorial service is styled after an ancient Viking funeral and they take a paper mache boat in the shape of a deer to the Mississippi River. After setting the boat on fire and pushing it out into the water, the boat refuses to leave and turns back to shore. After the service, Joe decides to go camping alone, so he can deal with his mother's passing. While camping, Joe ironically finds a headless deer, which he buries and then marks the spot with a stone. One evening he hears noises coming from outside his tent and he goes to investigate. This investigation leads him on a chase through the woods, until he runs into Jay (Tara Cullen) his ex-girlfriend, who has come to help him deal with the death of his mother in her strange and unique way.moreless
