Unreal is a pseudo-documentary that takes a comedic look at the aftermath of relationships in the largest city in America. Focused on three men and women that have recently broken up and agreed to be followed with cameras as they re-enter the singles' scene, the action and the lines often appear to be unscripted like reality television, but actually are. The movie is adept at juxtaposing the relative stability of being in a relationship versus the awkward dance that sometimes occurs as people once more tread the path of being single. Released in 2005 as an independent production, many of the themes in the movie remain contemporary several years later. During the course of the action, as one of the men who has broken up with his girlfriend is followed around with a camera, another woman that is being profiled as having recently broken up actually meets him, underlining the director's riff on reality television.
