Untold Scandal is a 2003 Korean adaptation of the classic, oft-filmed French novel Dangerous Liaisons. The setting is late 18th-century Korea instead of late 18th-century France, but the story -- full of intrigues, schemes, and secrets -- remains the same. This erotically charged film follows a pair of amoral aristocrats as they carelessly plot the destruction of a young woman's innocence. Lady Cho (Lee Mi-Suk), a jaded noblewoman, dares her cousin Cho-won (Bae Yong-Jun) to seduce her husband's future concubine. If he succeeds, Cho agrees to sleep with Cho-won. Cho-won decides to make the bet more interesting by also going after Lady Chung (Jeon Do-Yeon), a virtuous and virginal young woman who spends her days in religious devotion, attending outlawed Catholic Masses. This simple bet is complicated when Cho-won's relentless pursuit of Lady Chung begins to develop into genuine affection. A box-office hit in Korea, Untold Scandals has earned positive reviews from critics around the globe.
