Unzipped is a 1995 documentary that profiles high fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi as he prepares his 1994 Fall collection. This Sundance Audience award winner demonstrates the chaos, the unexpected inspirations and the emotional drama of the design process. Always an entertaining and vibrant personality, Mizrahi finds inspiration in the unlikeliest places, like Eskimos, a Ouija board and "The Mary Tyler Moore Show." Director Douglas Keeve captures Mizrahi's life in the midst of other fashion icons, like notorious designer John Galliano and "Vogue" magazine's Andre Leon Talley. Of course, there are plenty of supermodels to be seen from Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Naomi Cambell and even future First Lady of France, Carla Bruni. Even movie stars show they can be fans, too, when Faye Dunaway, Sandra Bernhardt and Richard Gere attend the runway show. The glittering cameos highlight rather than detract from the charismatic designer himself, in a fun and fascinating take on the creative process.
