Valentino: The Last Emperor is a biopic which illuminates the story behind the great designer that is Valentino Garavani. The film was made by Matt Tyrnauer, a correspondent of Vanity Fair magazine who was already somewhat familiar with Valentino. The film opens with a breakdown of Valentino's youth. As a teenager, Valentino was already interested in fashion and pursued gigs working with other fashion design magnates such as Balenciaga and Jacques Fath. Later, he opened a fashion house in Rome, where he met his life-long soulmate and business partner Giancarlo Giammetti. Giametti would enable Valentino to establish a distinctive style and voice of his own in the world of fashion. The film recaps most of Valentino's life up until present day, where the cameras follow him about his household as he interacts with Giammetti and indulges in fine food. It is no wonder Valentino has built such a great empire - he is a true artist with a vision.

What adds heart, and humor, is the interplay between the legendary couturier and Giancarlo Giammetti, his longtime partner in business and life.

Watching the movie is a little like gorging on chocolate and Champagne until that queasy moment arrives when you realize you've consumed far too much.
