Vanilla Sky is the mind-bending psychological thriller from writer/director Cameron Crowe. The film is a remake of Alejandro Amenabar's 1997 Spanish film Open Your Eyes (Abre Los Ojos). The story centers around David Ames (Tom Cruise), a wealthy bachelor who heads his deceased father's publishing company. After ending a relationship with Julianna (Cameron Diaz), David soon falls for Sofia (Penelope Cruz, reprising her role from Abre Los Ojos). After Julianna learns of David's new love interest, she suffers a mental break down and drives David and herself off of a bridge. What follows is an intense and often confounding exploration of our place in reality. Crowe mixes psychology, romance, paranoia and science fiction in Vanilla Sky. One of the reasons the film became an international hit was due to its eclectic soundtrack. Crowe, a former music journalist, is known for injecting evocative songs into his films. Sir Paul McCartney wrote and performed the Oscar nominated song for the film, entitled Vanilla Sky.
